 Kalsubai Peak: My Journey to the Highest Point in Maharashtra

 Standing at 1,646 meters, Kalsubai Peak isn’t just the highest point in Maharashtra—it’s a place that truly tests your strength and rewards your soul. My trek to Kalsubai was tiring, thrilling, and honestly one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in the Sahyadris.

 Starting from Bari Village

We started our trek early in the morning from Bari village, when the air was still cool and the sky just beginning to brighten. The village felt calm and welcoming, with locals already awake and small stalls setting up tea and snacks. That first sip of hot chai before the climb? Absolute bliss.

The Climb Up

As we moved forward, the trail slowly shifted from easy paths to rocky stretches. The greenery during the monsoon was unreal—everything looked fresh, alive, and glowing. The climb wasn’t easy, especially at the steep sections with iron ladders, but those ladders made the experience exciting rather than scary. Each break gave us a chance to catch our breath and admire the view, which somehow kept getting better the higher we went.

 


Reaching the Top

After hours of climbing, reaching the summit felt surreal. The moment I saw the Kalsubai Temple at the top, all the exhaustion faded away. The wind was strong, the clouds floated beneath us, and the silence up there felt powerful. Standing at the highest point of Maharashtra gave me a sense of achievement I can’t really put into words.

 The View That Made It Worth It

We were lucky enough to witness the changing colors of the sky—it was pure magic. The hills stretched endlessly, and for a moment, everything felt still. No noise, no rush—just nature and us. That view alone made every aching muscle worth it.

ok Now the main question is how to go their ?  i know even when i personally plan this trip i aslo have same question .... but don't worry i will tell you clean and cheap travel plan ....

Location & District

  • Kalsubai Peak is located in Ahmednagar(Ahilyanagar ) district, Maharashtra

  • Base village for the trek: Bari village

     Nearest Railway Station

    Igatpuri Railway Station (Best & closest option)

  • Distance from Bari village: ~16–18 km

  • Trains from Mumbai, Nashik, Pune stop here

From Igatpuri to Bari village:

  • Local taxi or shared jeep

  • State transport (ST) buses (Igatpuri → Bari)

  • Travel time: 30–40 minutes

👉 Many trekkers prefer Igatpuri because it’s well connected and very nearest railway station


 

Nearest Airport

Nashik (Ozar) Airport

  • Distance to Bari village: ~55–60 km

From Nashik Airport:

  • Taxi to Igatpuri or directly to Bari

  • Bus from Nashik to Igatpuri, then local transport

  • Travel time: 2–2.5 hours

✈️ Mumbai International Airport (major airport option)

  • Distance to Bari village: ~155 km

  • Best route: Mumbai → Igatpuri (train or road) → Bari

     

    By Road

  • From Mumbai: ~155 km (4–5 hours)

  • From Pune: ~180 km (5–6 hours)

  • From Nashik: ~55 km (1.5–2 hours)

Bari village is well connected by road, and parking is available near the trek start point.

  • Trek duration: 3–4 hours one way (depends on pace and weather)

 What I Took Back With Me

Kalsubai taught me patience and persistence. It reminded me that slow steps can still take you to extraordinary places. The trek is not just about reaching the top, but about enjoying every step of the journey.
